Covenant’s opening weekend, but Prometheus remains franchise best!

Alien: Romulus is performing very well for its first weekend in theaters! The Fede Alvarez picture has generated over $41 million at the box office for Disney & 20th Century Studios so far and is expected to conclude the weekend with a take well over $42 million. This beats out Ridley Scott’s last Alien entry Alien: Covenant back in 2017 – which earned $36 million during its first weekend debut. However, while Romulus has managed to dethrone Deadpool & Wolverine, it was unable to dethrone Prometheus as the franchise’s box office champion. Ridley Scott’s original Alien prequel earned $10 million more than Romulus back in 2012 during its debut weekend, taking home $51 million total.

Regardless, Alien: Romulus continues to score highly with domestic audiences and fans oversees. China have rated Romulus higher than the last 2 Alien prequels. Internationally, Romulus is projected to generate an additional $60 million, bringing the global take on the first weekend to $100 million!
