Regional winners of the #STEMorbitsOhio challenge

It’s time to recognize the regional winners of the #STEMorbitsOhio Design Challenge!

In this year’s challenge, students were presented with a unique problem:

How do we improve the health and well-being of astronauts aboard Starlab orbiting the earth? Develop a plan, system, or product to positively impact the sustainability of the physical and/or mental health of those living in space for an extended period of time.

Through the challenge, students explored the world of space exploration and other fields while prototyping real-world solutions to current problems.

After advancing from school-level competitions, students shared their innovative solutions to a panel of judges. Presenting about their solutions helped students to build confidence, bolster their communication skills, and reflect on their learning. In total, 120 students from 32 schools submitted to the regional competition.

The Ohio STEM Learning Network hosts a statewide design challenge each year, with participation from schools across Ohio. To involve your school in future challenges, sign up for emails from the network.

Read on for the winning elementary, middle, and high schools from each region. Regions are organized according to the regional Hubs of the Ohio STEM Learning Network. These hubs helped recruit schools for the competition and served as judges.
