Romulus contains a scene so disgusting, cast members had to look away!

Buckle up for more body horror in Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus movie! The Alien sequel / Aliens prequel blockbuster will reportedly feature a scene so horrifically disgusting, that cast members watching footage from the film had to look away during the scene, according to Alien: Romulus star Isabela Merced (via THR):

Merced is also starring alongside Cailee Spaeny in Fede Álvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus, which takes place between Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and James Cameron’s Aliens (1986). During a recent round of reshoots, Merced and some nearby cast/crew got to watch a significant chunk of the film on Álvarez’s iPad, and one scene in particular prompted everyone but Merced to look away in horror.

“There’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting,” Merced reveals. “And I was watching it like this … (Merced pretends to hold an iPad with a mesmerized look on her face.) I was so excited.”

Alien has always been known to deliver some truly gruesome death scenes, some so violent they don’t even make it into the final cut of the film (like this extended shower death scene from Alien: Covenant). It’s great to know Romulus will carry on that tradition of delivering nightmarish performances which leave us horrified at the thought of ever encountering a hostile Alien organism.

Alien: Romulus is currently undergoing reshoots but is still aiming for a theatrical release date of August 16th, 2024!

The Alien franchise is taking a dramatic turn at 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney. Currently there are two major Alien projects in development – a new Alien TV series by Noah Hawley and a new, stand-alone Alien movie being directed by Fede Alvarez. Both of which will be taking the franchise in a new direction – moving away from the Alien prequel direction Ridley Scott set out to pursue back in 2012.
