A battle took place in the B’omarr Order Monastery on the planet Teth in around 18 BBY, when a clone assassin of the Clone X Trooper division discovered the Clone Underground headquarters on the location. The clone, who had been tracking a fellow operative captured by the Underground, infiltrated the monastery and called for a Recovery Strike Team to reinforce him after identifying the presence of genetically defective clone Omega in the compound. In the ensuing firefight the assassin killed many insurgents and forced the remaining clones to fled into the jungle, where they were cornered by the Strike Team. Despite commander Wolffe allowing the clones to escape, the battle marked the fragmentation of the Clone Underground movement and the destruction of their primary headquarters.

History[]

Background[]

Rex and I have built up a small network of clones. Some are in hiding, underground. Others act as our contacts within the Empire.
―Echo, to Hunter[7]

The Clone Underground was a secret resistance movement created by Clone Commander Rex and former Advanced Recon Commando Echo and assisted by Imperial Senators Riyo Chuchi and Avi Singh. The network operated from a repair shop on the Imperial capital planet Coruscant with the goal of assisting the remaining clone troopers discarded or maltreated by the Empire after the Clone Wars. After discovering the existence of Tantiss Base,[4] the Advanced Science Division headquarters[7] where experiments were performed on hundreds of imprisoned clones,[8] the Underground switched its focus towards findings its location to attack it and liberate their brothers. To that end, they established a headquarters[4] on the Wild Space[9] planet[5] Teth, in the B’omarr Order Monastery[4] where the Battle of Teth had taken place,[10] and began recruiting more troopers to their cause to prepare for the eventual attack.[4]

In 18 BBY[3] Underground members Rex, Howzer and Greer escorted dissident Senator Avi Singh to Pantora, where he met with Underground member Senator Chuchi to discuss a political alliance against Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Despite their precautions, the meeting was discovered by a clone assassin of the Clone X Trooper division, who killed Greer and infiltrated the cantina where the meeting took place. After discovering that Greer wasn’t responding to the comlink checks, Howzer and Rex searched his position and discovered the assassin, who tried to escape but was stunned by a pursuing Howzer. The Underground members captured the assassin and took him back to the Monastery on board the Remora for questioning.[4]

Infiltration[]

After securing the prisoner, identified as CX-1 on the compound, Fireball managed to remove his suicide shocker before the assassin could use it to kill himself. However, the clone proved to be resistant to interrogation, frustrating the Underground members who considered him the only way to discover the location of Tantiss Base. Increasingly desperate, Howzer insisted that they needed to call in Clone Force 99, a unit of genetically defective clones retired to the planet Pabu, since one of their members, Crosshair, was also imprisoned on the Base and Howzer suspected him to know about its location due to his previous Imperial affiliation.[4]

At the same time, clone commando Scorch, head of Tantiss Base security, discovered that CX-1 had stopped responding to comm hailsafter his mission in Pantora. As the assassin’s implanted homing beacon was still active, Scorch deduced that he had been captured and activated another Clone X trooper, Sniper CloneX2 to track him down and silence him before he could divulge sensitive information. CloneX2 was able to track CX-1 to the monastery on Teth, arriving shortly after Clone Force 99.[4]

While the Underground members were taking a lunch break with Force 99, the assassin climbed into the Monastery spire and entered the compound walls. Evading the guards, he planted two thermal detonators to the Rho-class transport shuttles parked on the courtyard and entered the temple undiscovered. Before making it to the target he spotted Omega, who was marked as the primary target for Advanced Science Division chief Royce Hemlock and he quickly retreated to the courtyard to alert Scorch. The commando immediately mobilized a Recovery Strike Team under Clone Commander Wolffe and commando Hilo to reinforce CloneX2, and ordered the assassin to acquire Omega alive.[4]

Upon receiving his orders, CloneX2 entered the temple and made his way to the break room before detonating the bombs, killing Underground clones Fireball and Samson. As the remaining rogue clones were interrogating CX-1, they were confined in his small cell and unable to escape when the explosions began. CloneX2 immediately killed CX-1 with a sniper rifle and engaged the rogue clones, who were able to temporarily subdue him as Nemec was activating the backup power generator to send a distress signal to off-world Underground members. CloneX2 destroyed the generator, wounding Nemec, and forcing the remaining clones to storm him with Fireball shooting a flamethrower against him. Unfortunately, X2 shot and killed Fireball who dropped his flamethrower with the flames heat setting off the remaining explosives, detonating and demolishing part of the roof. As the cave-in cornered CloneX2, the clones escaped through a tunnel in CX-1’s cell, making their way to a leech vessel several levels underground.[4]

Arrival of the Strike Team[]

Soon after the shootout, the Rho-class shuttles of the Strike Team landed in the Monastery courtyard and deployed the recovery unit led by Commander Wolffe. CloneX2 briefed the officer, who reprimanded him for utilizing explosives in the pursuit of a target who was to be acquired alive, and stressed that the assassin was to follow his orders from then on. Wolffe then deployed a unit to search the ruins for escape routes, discovering the tunnel in the cell’s floor as well as CX-1’s corpse. Having knowledge of the Battle of Teth, Wolffe identified the tunnel as leading to the middle of the Monastery spire and ordered the shuttles split, with one descending to a landing pad in the bottom of the spire and the other circling the mountain to look for signs of escape craft. Wolffe also had a TK stormtrooper destroy the cell to seal the tunnel entrance, forcing the escapees to encounter them head-on. Before the explosives detonated CloneX2 jumped in the tunnel as well to pursue the clones himself.

Inside the tunnel the clones descended a staircase towards the leech vessel launch point. Before reaching it, they were engaged from several levels above by CloneX2, forcing Crosshair to stay back to engage him as the others continued on. After Crosshair shot an explosive bolt against the enemy, dropping him several levels down, the rogue clones reached the vessel before their pursuers and escaped towards a predetermined extraction point in the jungle. Before they managed to land, however, CloneX2 reached the launch tube and shot their engines, causing the shuttle to crash after transmitting an emergency message to off-world Underground members. Right then, the Strike team reached the tube room, and Wolffe reprimanded the assassin for going against his orders and again shooting to kill instead of incapacitating, with CloneX2 replying that he merely stopped the rogues from getting away. Tracking their transmissions, Wolffe alerted one of the two shuttles to fly ahead to their destination and block it off, while the rest of the Strike Team boarded the second one and pursued.

With the rogue clones’ craft downed, the team made their way to the clearing of the extraction zone. CloneX2 soon caught up with them and engaged them with his rifle, but the clones were able to evade him until they reached the blockade formed by the TK stormtroopers of the Rho-class shuttle. With the shuttle hovering overhead, the clones dropped smoke bombs and attacked the stormtroopers through the smokescreen, killing several of them. Crosshair then shot the pilot of the shuttle as well as its engines as more stormtroopers were preparing to rappel from it, bringing it down and causing it to crash nearby.

CloneX2, still in pursuit, engaged them again from a vantage point in the nearby hill. As the team ran for the extraction zone in the base of a waterfall, Crosshair stayed behind and again engaged the assassin in a sniping duel. The rogue clone was soon able to disarm his opponent, who switched to his blaster pistol, and then a vibroknife, before turning to a fist-fight. The two clones fell into the waterfall, where Howzer stunned the assassin, causing him to plummet down the cliff.

The clones regrouped at the waterfall awaiting for their extraction craft. Just then, the second shuttle carrying Wolffe and commando Hilo arrived on the site and the Strike team disembarked it surrounding the rogues with their backs to the waterfall cliff. Rex, recognizing Wolffe from their time in the Clone Wars, pleaded with him to realize the harm of his actions, pointing to him hunting Omega -a child- as an example of Imperial indoctrination. Despite hesitating, Wolffe ordered his troopers to stand down and allowed the clones to board the Remora which had just landed behind them, as a sign of respect to his clone brothers.
